The Honeymoon not taken
![]() |
| from their courtship |
They were poor as church mice,
Then there was the meeting with the nephew.
She had decorated the church hall two nights before,
a reception for family and friends.
She left the Temple early, from the wedding,
On Saturday morning, to finish the preparation.
The day started early, with the family breakfast,
in his apartment, a gift from his landlady,
who lived in the house above.
When she had moved her stuff in,
He then spent the time sleeping in her bed,
without her.
The nephew was the first child of her best friend.
It was at the clan gathering.
They met the previous summer.
He thought it best to introduce her to the family,
Early in the courting, in case she rejected them.
She loved them, and they loved her;
Could there be a better match?
So then the meeting with the nephew,
born a few weeks before.
To offer a name and a blessing,
This was then his task, this day.
For these three decades, no honeymoon,
taken have they, but still the adventurous,
They've shared.
